Moscow University for the Humanities (MUH) was founded in 1992. MUH is the largest educational establishment in Russia and in Europe, where more than 140 thousands of students study. In 2008 HUM celebrated its anniversary - the presentation of diploma of higher education to the 200000th graduate.
In 2005 MUH became the only Russian university included as a foundation-member in GMUNET, the global net of mega-universities.

MUH is the university of the new generation where educational process is based on innovational technologies.
MUH was the first Russian to use full-scale distance education technologies in the realization of basic and extended educational programs. The readiness of MUH for the realization of separate educational programs with the use of full-scale educational programs is confirmed by the Order of the Ministry of Education of Russia of 09.03.2004 №1221 "The confirmation of readiness of Non-commercial educational establishment "Modern University for the Humanities" for the realization of separate educational programs with the use of full-sale distant education technologies".
Full-scale use of distant education technologies helped MUH to form the distributed organizational structure of the University. At present MUH is a distributed mega-university, incorporating the net of access centers to academic resources of MUH, situated in geographically distant towns and settlements and integrated by means of telecommunications, united exterritorial teaching staff, united educational content and united digital library and informational system of academic administration.
Distributed educational activity of MUH contributes to the development of cross-boarder education. By means of telecommunications MUH gives the opportunity of access to its academic resources to the partners of the near and far abroad countries.

MUH deploys quality management system based on TQM principles underlying the ISO standards. In 2004 MUH was one of the first five RF universities to successfully go through the QMS certification in the certification system of "Test Standard" based on the compliance to the GOST R ISO 9001-2001 (ISO 9001:2000) requirements, and got the certificate of conformity. QMS covers the head university and all the MUH subsidiaries.
MUH is the only university in the world with the status of TV-broadcasting company, confirmed by the Russian Committee on the World Record Registration. The broadcasting of all-Russian educational channel "MUH TV" covers almost 300 towns of Russia.
MUH is the largest research centre of educational technologies, which is confirmed by 170 licenses and certificates for inventions. The priority directions of scientific research are design-ergonomics of the environment, balance method of individualization of studies, practical didactics, health-saving educational technologies.
MUH publishes periodicals, scientific, popular scientific and reference literature. Annual circulation of the publications totals 20000 copies.
MUH takes active part in strategic problems solution of a number of public educational organizations, such as the Department of Distant Educational Technologies under the Jurisdiction of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, the Association of Non-State Universities of Moscow and Moscow Region, National Association of Non-State Institutions of Higher Education, Expert Council on Legislative Provision under the jurisdiction of the RF Committee on the Education and Science, Quality Council of Rosobrnadzor, Working Group on the Elaboration of Regulatory Documents under the jurisdiction of the Council on Distant Education Technologies of the Federal Institute of Russian Education and many others.

MUH provides high-quality education to all the citizens on the place of their residence, including those whose possibilities to move from one place to another are limited due to their working conditions, environment or health (military men situated in garrisons and autonomous places of service, invalids, the inhabitants of flash points, people convicted to punishment in the form of imprisonment and others), and also everyone who needs individual educational plans.

In compliance with item 24 of the Federal Law "On Military Obligation and Military Service" of 28.03.1998 № 53-ФЗ the students of MUH mastering accredited educational programs of higher, secondary professional and elementary professional full-time education are entitled to get the determent for military service.
The graduates who have successfully completed their studies on accredited educational programs get state-standard diplomas. Complementary to the diploma of higher professional education MUH certifies its graduates with the international-standard Diploma Supplement issued in accordance with the rules of the international system ECTS - p.1, p.2, p.3, p.4, p.5, p.6.
MUH is the official academic centre of Microsoft, so MUH students can get training on the international programs of Microsoft specialists preparation. On the completion of certificated courses the students get MUH certificates - Microsoft IT Academy, and also on the condition of successful passing of international qualification testing international professional certificates of Microsoft specialists are issued. The holders of the certificates are included into the international data base of Microsoft specialists.
The mission of MUH is the provision of quality education of high level, available to numerous layers of population on the place of their residence on the territory of the Russian Federation.
